How does mood alter everything?

The following is an excerpt from Awakening the Eagle: A Guide to the Medicine Wheel by Ralph P. Brown (Tawennihake). He is offering an interview for this blog to be posted nearby soon.

Three men who sat on top of the same mountain, but at different times, were asked to describe it when they came down.

The first man said, "It was the most beautiful thing I have ever seen.  It was breath-taking."

The second man said, "I was scared to death because it was so high! I was lucky not to fall off!"

And finally, the third man said, "It was so lonely.  I have never felt to isolated and alone."

  • Three men
  • Three perceptions of the same thing
  • Three answers

But only one mountain.  The mountain is what the mountain is.  In truth, none of the perceptions is imposed on it by these three men.  The mountain is a mountain and only the way people see it differs. Different moods cause different outlooks.

Boy, is this true! I've been frightened of the marketing and promotion of my CD until today. A new awareness and mood has landed, and it's closer to the breath-taking mountain experience than the following two.

It's all in the way you approach things!

Jannie, your moods are not limited to the three presented as examples in this value tale. You can remove limits you create. As you begin to intuit, how you approach things is evolving with your level of self-confidence.

Hi Liara. What would your comment be about waking up in a horrible mood? I know it is said that we choose our moods; happiness is a choice, etc.

I awoke in that space, before I would have even thought about choosing a mindset. I played with it for a few hours (resisted, more like it), before being able to move through the murkiness. Even so, there are still some small remnants of it hanging around today; some discontent in the air. Makes me think that I was processing "something" while in the sleep state and it's still not cleared.

Davina, every thought, feeling and behaviour is a conscious and or unconscious chocice. As one detaches from judging what is apparently good or bad, and one takes full responsibility for choices, one grows to recognize meaning and valuable lessons in every choice. As you expand awareness, you discern differently.

Yes, this is profound wisdom indeed! Our perceptions may shape our life, but they do not necessarily shape other things. The mountain is the mountain, it is we who choose to see it in various ways, and give it different meanings.

Just so this applies to our life situations. The situation just is, it is us who give it the meaning we choose.
