Look into the mirror

When you get what you want in your struggle for self,

And the whole world makes you king for a day,

Just go to the mirror and look at yourself,

And see what that person has to say.

For it is not your father or mother, or spouse,

Whose judgement upon you must pass.

The being whose verdict counts most in your life

Is the one staring back at you from the mirror.

You may fool the whole world down the pathway of years

And get pats on the back as you pass.

But your final reward will be heartache and tears

If you cheated that soul staring back through the glass.

You may be like Jack Horner and chisel a plum,

And think your a wonderful creature,

But the person in the mirror says you're only a bum

If you can't look yourself in the eye.

That's the person to please--never mind all the rest,

For this being is with you for good.

And you've passed your most dangerous and difficult test

If the person in the mirror is your true friend.

So true, so true, thanks for sharing this bit of wisdom with us.

Miguel, it is said one is invited to taste the message, to ingest what applies to you and discard what does not. The message you receive is that which is most pertinent to your life at this moment. This is the echo of the universe.

A powerful message! The universe truly echoes the thoughts in us and everything did happen for a reason. There was a reason why I was here commenting also; to remind myself to always be truthful to the one in the mirror. When I first started to use a computer back in 1997, I started chatting in miRC. There were a few nicknames which I used back then but my favorite was coincidentally 'mirror.' The reason why I used the nickname 'mirror' was to use it as a reflection of my thoughts, words and actions; so that I could always stay on the right track. Even though I don't chat nowadays on miRC anymore, I still use the nickname, 'mirror,' constantly to remind myself of my thoughts, words and actions. We can have fooled the whole world, but we can never fool the one in the mirror.

BK, many human beings are not psychologically ready to be completely honest with themselves. This is why awakening occurs in stages. As you choose to systematically be aware of your thoughts and feelings, you are choosing to gaze into the mirror within soul. Regardless of external behavior, that is, what you choose to show others, this does not change what soul sees. This explains why a person has potential to be his best friend or some entity that resots and opposes what is.

Thanks for posting that poem .. good one for me now .. I do need to look in the mirror, and keep reminding myself to be myself and forget others .. while I do my best.

HiIary, glad you like the poem. Read an intriguing story recently about Aboriginals on a walkabout with a white woman in the Australian Outback. They had no mirror and yet the white woman went through a mental process of learning to look inside herself without one. This is a friendly reminder that many ways exist to receive the message soul requires to savor what is right for you.

Caroline, your uplifting blog is a blessing. Thanks for visiting here. Every human being has abilities to empower others. Each human being is on a timeless journey, doing what is necessay to grow grateful and wise. To choose to care for fellow soul travellers is to remind yourself eveyone everywhere also looks out and cares for you!

It is really neat how your every post applies to every one of us, as we are all one and the same being in this swirling wild-energy soup we call the universe.
May 5, 2009 | Unregistered CommenterJannie Funster
Jannie, every human being is interconnected with everything else. The wild-energy soup is nourishing brew for the soul. Its overflowing out of the magical cauldron of the universe. This expanding image helps you visualize unconditional love and acceptance exploding within. Transparent bubble universes connect with others and hang out in suspended animation near other bubble universes that are not touching. You have the inner power to connect with all this. In fact, you do without awareness already. You are a very potent firecracker! Feel it yet?

Hello..

Excellent post.
I totally share your thoughts in so many ways. My first step towards accepting oneself is by looking in the mirror and looking past the material image. Identifying with your unique gift of life and seeing who you are inside then loving that being unconditionally is true self acceptance!
Also realizing just how powerful what nature is about and how very powerful once we stop and just listen without all of the distractions of our man made environment!

Dorothy, looking past the image on the surface of the mirror is an effective way to get to absolutely nothing. The clean slate in your mind is where emotion and judgment have dissolved or no longer exist. It is that place where pure love and unconditional acceptance are recognized as the key to freedom. When the mind is not clear, you have forgotten the experience where words and labels do not exist. Zen perspective says when your mouth opens, everything apppears. Close the mouth and everything disappears. One can let all desires and judgment fall away.
