Expect the unexpected

His name was Fleming, and he was a poor Scottish farmer.

One day, while trying to make a living for his family, he heard a cry for help coming from a nearby bog. He dropped his tools and ran to the bog. There, mired to his waist in black muck, was a terrified boy, screaming and struggling to free himself. Farmer Fleming saved the lad from what could have been a slow and terrifying death.

The next day, a fancy carriage pulled up to the Scotsman's sparse surroundings. An elegantly dressed nobleman stepped out and introduced himself as the father of the boy Farmer Fleming had saved.

"I want to repay you," said the nobleman. "You saved my son's life."

"No, I can't accept payment for what I did," the Scottish farmer replied, waving off the offer.

At that moment, the farmer's own son came to the door of the family hovel. "Is that your son?" the nobleman asked.

"Yes," the farmer replied proudly.

"I'll make you a deal. Let me provide him with the level of education my own son will enjoy. If the lad is anything like his father, he'll no doubt grow to be a man we both will be proud of."

And that he did.

Farmer Fleming's son attended the very best schools and in time, he graduated from St. Mary's Hospital Medical School in London, and went on to become known throughout the world as the noted Sir Alexander Fleming, the discoverer of Penicillin.

Years afterward, the same nobleman's son who was saved from the bog was stricken with pneumonia. What saved his life this time?

Penicillin.

The name of the nobleman? Lord Randolph Churchill.

His son's name? Sir Winston Churchill.

You never know when someone may be an angel in disguise.

Go where you seek to go

In order to accept yourself, you benefit from asking yourself what is acceptable for you to live and for you to experience. In your mind, walk through what you think will happen to you if you continue living and thinking as you do now. Then, consider what you think to you need to do to be honest with yourself about how you are.  What would this include? How will you achieve it?

The good news is your brain can take you anywhere you’ve ever thought of going. Be bold! Daring! You simply need to explore what you have the potential to do. Cease to be the person you have been in order to become the person you have always aspired to be. Peel the layers back and discover if your choices are enabling you to be true to yourself.  Empty your mind of anything that might take your mind off a positive future. Take steps to define your new future.

Negative publicity or criticism is often better disregarded. Don’t permit the views of other people to dissuade you from what your heart tells you to do. If you haven’t yet learned to listen closely to yourself, away from other people, you can still learn to do this.  Consider what experiences have taught you meaningful lessons.  Why do you think certain choices haven't worked for you. What kinds of distractions get in the way? What can you do to pull up your socks? Remind yourself that the world is your oyster. You can go wherever you choose. Just go.

The necklace

A friend of mine told me a memorable story about her father's infant sister. During the aunt's childhood, at age three, she wandered off into the forest near her house into the forest.  She was missing overnight. Her family grew very worried. When she was eventually found the next day, she said that "the lady took care of me."  Her parents were initially confused.  They thought that perhaps a stranger had cared for their daughter.  They expressed gratitude.  Yet, the little girl shook her head.  She pointed instead to the fact that she wore a necklace with the head of the Virgin Mary.  She indicated this was the lady who looked after her. Her parents initially doubted her story, yet she convinced them that she must have had guardain angels.

Do your dreams unlock secrets?

When you awaken, how often do you remember your dreams? If you remember even part of your dreams, do you think they have any significance? What might you learn from them, if anything?

Some people are convinced that understanding their dreams is the key to gaining insight into themselves, their mistakes, goals, this life, possible past lives and even death.   These people think dreams have the power to unlock secrets within themseves. They write them and learn.

Other people don't recall their dreams and may have no interest in their possible significance. In fact, some of these people even think that trying to interpret dreams is meaningless. They go further to say any interpretation is not only a waste of time, but a true, self-created illusion.  According to them,  Freundian, Jungian or other views of dream interpretation are hogwash.  What do you think?

Power questions & power talk

Whenever you speak, realize words are powerful energy.  They hold potential based on how and what you express and to whom. Language has different impacts on people and the world as a whole.  Get ready to engage in power questions and power talk.

Even from something as simple as how you approach another person, you can gain more than a wealth of information.  Critical thinking becomes a valuable tool as you learn new approaches to obtaining information, and to weighing the pros and cons of what you hear. How words are formulated determines the power and impact they will have.

Whether you seek to strengthen your relationships, to build a business, to deepen your sense of connectedness to spirituality and the world, or to enrich some other area of your life, consider the power of communication in the form of relevant questions.  Begin by asking yourself "why."

Questions are a means to create abundance and affluence because they:

  • Enable you to avoid arguments tactfully, with diplomacy and get to the point.
  • Remind you how it can be desirable to talk less and listen more to others' needs.
  • Allow you to empower someone to recognize what he/ she really wants.
  • Probe into the mind of another person to teach you things about yourself and that person.
  • Encourage a sense of appreciation, since you request and value the view of another.
  • Help you realize that promoting respect and self-respect will lead to fruitful collaboration.

In addition to asking pertinent questions, the way you come across will determine whether you deserve the faith and confidence of another person. Your behaviour can help you win and hold the attention of other people or become the reason why you aren't to be taken seriously. So long as you always talk well of other people, be it past relations, colleagues or business competition, you will give others reason to praise and value you in varied capacities. What would stop you getting there?
