Tap into the teacher within

Human beings are often socially- conditioned to seek outside themselves for answers. They request guidance from religious leaders, counsellors, therapists, New Age Seers and other perceived experts, for insight they choose not to find within.

Now, every person you meet is helpful to you based on your beliefs and what you hope to learn. Every connection has meaning and purpose.  When you choose to sense it, everyone and everything is a teacher who encourages you to draw the best out of yourself.  Regardless of who you consult and your apparent conditions, you have internal work to do for yourself.

Its a milestone to reach a point where you are willing to acknowledge fear or face reasons for discomfort of any kind.  Self-honesty and raising awareness do not come easily to everyone. Be gentle with the self.  Write yourself a letter. This need not intimidate you with the requirement of a journal, but you can choose to do that too.  Begin with these questions;

1) How do you describe happiness? Do you feel it now?

2) Which experiences enrich you, add meaning to your life?

3) What do you believe you deserve? How do you prevent it?

4) Why do you sense a crossroads? Which lessons beckon?

5) Which situation(s) are you ready to let go of forever?

6) How would the inner voice answer for your subconscious?

Hi Liara,
These questions you pose are good at generating thoughts within, especially if we look deeply for the answers, and not just on the surface. There is so much we can learn from the world around us, but it all comes back to us - and what we're ready to learn.

Thanks much for this, my friend. These questions are already starting to bounce around in my head - in good ways!

Lance, reality is that everything you desire to know is accessible within. Its just that many human beings have lost touch with their inner being, baseline energy vibration and spiritual core. As a person chooses to subtle nuances, suddenly, teachers appear and intuition strengthens to reassure you that you are on the right path.

Hi Liara,

Happiness is important and yes I feel it. I make sure that I experience it every day, that way whatever day I look back on, I can say that I was happy.

There was a commercial that used to play in England and the slogan was: "Happiness is a cigar named Hamlet."

The point being that we each can describe our happiness even if it is engaging in something that others may not associate with happiness.

Happiness is also reading your posts my friend. :D

Alexys, love the British humor! Some people truly savor dry wit. Its always possible to expand the range of one's sense of humor. As you realizes happiness is within, part of who you are and how you perceive every moment, then you stop looking for what you already are and just be.

Your last paragraph resonated the most for me... And it is where the most healing has come from, in facing that discomfort until I eventually found each source within...

Each one of those 6 questions could have 5,000 word answers, dear Liara - they are very thought provoking...

For me, the teachers I have sought had to work hand in hand with being willing to learn and incorporate the information that brought those 'a-ha' moments, minute(tiny) and huge alike...

It IS important to not listen to words that lead you astray, and for that, you need to use your discernment.

Loving Annie, the letter(s) one writes to the self can always be short and sweet or, evolve into endless epic-length reflections. Each person makes the right choice for him or her at a given moment. The concept of discernment is ever-changing within. Every choice builds a reperatoire of insight that could be viewed as a distraction or, a short-cut to reconnect to that infinite, inner knowing.

These are excellent questions! I think I'll give that letter a try.

Hi Liara,

I liked this post very much. Sometimes we think we know our definitions of happiness, etc and really all we have are just a bunch of random jumbled thoughts/ideas that we received from others. I decided to do this exercise before posting and it was good to write my definition of happiness. To me, happiness is a carefree ease, complete and utter acceptance of myself and the present moment which gives me a feeling of freedom. I recently experienced this and it was so sweet, but difficult yet for me to sustain. When I answered question #6, I learned my ego still likes to hold on and create resistance due to the perceived need for control. I believe releasing this resistance just takes constant awareness to recognize the resistance.

Tapping into the teacher within is a wonderful way of getting in touch with one's real self and the questions that you have listed certainly help in finding that teacher. The single most difficult thing for everyone to do is to define what happiness is. Everyone can understand, even experience happiness or its absence, but to define it is impossible. That is because, the experiences that give happiness keeps changing all the time and that is because, we have come to expect happiness to result from something or the other. The quest of the true seeker is to stay in the permanent state of happiness, which is, due to a lack of a better definition, the absence of unhappiness.

Hi Liara .. I look forward to getting back to some relief - which I think would mean happiness to me now. However my main happiness is making sure my mother is as happy as she can be .. not enough, but that's life for now.

I love reading others comments on happiness .. I know I'll be back with my own version in due course.

Thanks .. I think I'll leave the letter writing for now - I write enough to relatives and friends and can't get my head round other thoughts ..

Liara,

I love this idea. Write a letter to myself... I used to journal, now I blog.. but blogging misses that personal "just for me" aspect to it and this reminds me of the value of journaling. It is really amazing, when we start talking to ourselves in dialogue, what comes out. I have had some incredible written "conversations". Fabulous. Looking forward to talking with you in person! (Well, virtually anyways!)
Mama Zen, opening the mind to new possibilities reminds you that options exist silently, awaiting your awakening and initiative. Many people swing though thoughts and emotions about situations where they are not. They focus on past and future and selectively forget here and now? Why? Its up to you to discern and to heal your way.

E.Michelle, as you imply, human beings have an inner understanding of happiness, even if this is not always translatable into words. The ability to discern resistance and learn to instinctively release it is a way to constructively rechannel energy. This nourishes the soul.

rummuser, experiences that seem to give happiness actually do not. Happiness is something every being always has, yet brainwashing often convinces people they must do things to feel or stay happy. In truth, as a person unloads misplaced beliefs, he remembers the uplifting feelings that are forever accessible though love in the heart. This eternal, unwavering and unconditional state is but a thought away. Everyone has access, anytime.

Hilary, happiness is always where you choose to find it. Some people associate it with particular experiences or things, yet when it comes right down to it, happiness is that pure love that is truly you. You uncover it when you require strength in adversity, and other times, its presence is that of a reassuring, unjudgmental friend. Greatly appreciate your reflections. Everyone is always loved.

Amy, every human being constantly receives echoes and vibrations from the inner self. You choose to listen and raise self-awareness or, not. Your interest in different levels of inner dialogue suggests you will enjoy reading my latest book, Self-Disclosure: Changes from Within.

I think this is such an important post, and such important questions. Ultimately, we have the answers, it is just a matter of tapping into them. There isn't one formula that works for everyone, so I am glad to see you posting this, encouraging people to tap into their own wisdom!

What a great post, and something I was talking to a friend about recently. Each of us is our own best teacher. Only we can experience the truth of ourselves - no one can show it to us or tell us how to get there. Other people's examples might illuminate a path we never thought to take, but in the end, it's always us teaching us.

Molly, as you imply, encouragement and reassurance are widely appreciated. Many human beings struggle to detach from self-doubt. To recognize each person is a worthy guide for self-unveiling is a useful revelations. At the same time, it is heartening to recognize everything everywhere is a teacher that leads you back to the self.
June 11, 2009 | Registered CommenterLiara Covert
Megan, each person decides what he or she is ready and willing to learn, and when. The focus of attention is a sign of what a person is ready to begin to explore or accept. Perception shifts but reality stays forever the same.
