In waking life and during sleep, each person discerns what is meaningful and why. Whether or not you realize, your physical body has a shadow-like astral body. The real (astral) you travels vast distances astrally, while you sleep. Since everyone does not recall dreams or even feel the need, you may wonder the point of astral dreaming. You may be surprised about what astral experiences do for you, even at this moment:
1) Raises your awareness. If you believe astral is a supersensible substance pervading all space, then you may also come to believe it forms the substance of a second body (astral body) attached to each person by an invisible, ethereal cord. It is always with you, and can leave the human body at will, consciously or unconsciously, and it survives the physical body after death. As you discern that astral body separates and reunites with your physical body, you begin to recognize feelings of expansion, growth and renewal.
2) Teaches you about energy vibration. Everything you perceive while awake or asleep is energy that vibrates. Through experience, you evolve to discern different frequencies and register the nature of matter. The astral body discerns energy differently than your physical body because the astral body is not restricted by doubt and conditioned thought. You learn about energy distortion and how conscious perception creates that.
3) Prepares you for transitions. It is believed that you explore dimensions and experiences on astral planes which prepare you for work you will undertake when you leave the physical world. You might view this as a way to help you accept and adjust to transitions in your energy state. If you were not preparing for energy transition, the change would shock you and it would require a period of recovery. As your soul evolves in consciousness while your physical body lives, you become aware of spirit realms and you strengthen conscious memory. This applies to dream recall and also other event recall.
